Natyashastra to be recreated in simple audio-visual form by young upcoming director

“Natyashastra, considered as the fifth Veda, believed to be the supreme scripture of theatre arts, was created thousands of years ago by Bharat Muni who imbibed the core of all the four Vedas with the inspiration by Lord Brahma himself.”
Indian theatre is completely unimaginable without Natyashastra, but today's theatre artistes,playwrights and theatre technicians do not seem to have any understanding of it. Natyashastra was written in the Sanskrit language in the poetic narration style. Though it has been translated to many Indian and foreign languages by many scholars,it has not become as popular in the theatre world as it should rightfully have beem. Director Sanjeev Sharma, who plays to make the Natyashastra more accessible to the common man, believes that the Natyashastra should be presented in audio visual format because theatre is an audio visual medium itself.
After 7 years of extensive research, Sanjeev Sharma has taken up the challenge of presenting Bharatmuni’s Natyashastra in audio-visual format so that it will be helpful to every person associated with theatre arts. “My aim is to present Natyashastra in a series of documentaries covering all the chapters in detail including the origins of the book. These documentaries will also be consisting of views by Indian and foreign scholars, writers, actors and theatre personalities. The series of documentaries will be filmed to present the Natyashastra in a very simple format and in Hindi and English languages so that it becomes easy to understand for everyone. Graphics will also be used to present different aspects of the book.” The young director said that he got the thought to make this documentary when he started reading Natyashastra for the research of his film script which is based on the evolution of Indian theatre. This remarkable project will be the first expansive effort towards the presentation of Natyashastra till date.

Brief about Sanjeev Sharma: Sanjeev Sharma has been working in the entertainment industry for past ten years. He has worked with renowned production companies like Rajshri Productions Pvt. Ltd. Vishesh Films, Bohra Bros.( Mr. Sunil Bohra), BMB Productions, Romesh Films ( Mr. Romesh Sharma), Shri Ashtvinayak Cine vision Pvt. Ltd. He has also had the opportunity to work with renowned film personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, veteran writers like Sachin Bhowmick, Ram Kelkar to name a few. In his endeavor to make the performing arts more accessible he also co-founded two media education institutes to provide much-needed training to a younger generation of technicians & artists.
